Revision D·E·J Night Face Cream, the Retinol Step at Night

Revision D·E·J Night face cream® is an intensive nighttime moisturizer Revision formulates to work while you sleep, pairing time-released 0.25% Retinol with Bakuchiol. The D·E·J name refers to the Dermal-Epidermal Junction, and Revision says the formula addresses the visible signs of aging overnight while supporting the skin's own Microbiome. Revision's claims for it, in its own words: it visibly reduces fine lines and wrinkles, improves skin elasticity and the look of sagging skin, helps skin appear firmer and lifted, refines texture, minimizes the appearance of pores, corrects visible photodamage, and supports microbiome balance with prebiotic and postbiotic ingredients. Revision lists it as suited to all skin types.

The Retinol, and Why It Is Encapsulated

The retinol here is microencapsulated. Revision's reason for that is a slow release, which it says optimizes efficacy and minimizes irritation, and it describes Bakuchiol as a broad-spectrum antioxidant that boosts retinol's efficacy while minimizing dryness and irritation. Bakuchiol is plant-derived. For context rather than proof, the American Academy of Dermatology says retinol can help improve uneven tone, texture and mild fine lines.

Revision also publishes a figure of a 24 percent increase in collagen in five days. Its only footnote is data on file, results may vary. No panel size, no method and no detail beyond the five days is disclosed, so read it as the brand's own unpublished testing.

Reading the Ingredient List

• Alpha-Glucan Oligosaccharide. Revision says it enhances the skin's natural ability to balance and diversify the skin's own Microbiome.
• Vitamin A, 0.25% Retinol. Revision credits it with improving the appearance of skin texture and pores.
• Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2 and Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14. Revision's DEJ Targeting Blend, which it says helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
• Vitamin C as THD Ascorbate. Revision says it brightens dull skin.
• Rosemary, Astragalus and Goji Fruit Extracts. Revision lists rosemary and goji as antioxidants and astragalus as a hydrating boost.
• Coenzyme Q10, Ubiquinone. An oil-soluble antioxidant, per Revision.

Revision's published ingredient list also carries ceramides NP, AP and EOP, cholesterol, phytosphingosine, squalane and sodium hyaluronate, which is a barrier-support set worth knowing about in a retinol product.

Applying It, and What to Pair It With

Revision's directions are to use it in the evening after cleansing and after all other treatment products, dispensing one to two pumps into the palm and smoothing it onto the face while avoiding the eye area. Revision advises wearing sunscreen during the day while using it.

If you also use D·E·J Face Cream, Revision's instruction is the day cream in the morning and this one in the evening. Revision adds that it can be combined with its Retinol Complete in the evening if tolerated.

Questions About D·E·J Night Face Cream

How strong is the retinol?
0.25%, time-released. That is a low concentration by design, and the encapsulation is the point rather than the percentage.

Can I use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Revision says no. Its own FAQ does not recommend the product during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and advises speaking to a provider before or after a cosmetic procedure.

Is Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38 in it?
Revision's own ingredient highlights name Palmitoyl Tripeptide-38, and Revision's full published ingredient list does not contain it. What the list does contain is Palmitoyl Hexapeptide-14, alongside Acetyl Tetrapeptide-2. We have followed the ingredient list.

Do I still need sunscreen?
Yes. Revision's own directions advise wearing sunscreen during the day while using this product.
